Over the past couple of years, many people across the world have had to quickly adjust to working from home. One of the main struggles people have faced while working from home is trying to figure out how to stay productive. It’s much easier to be distracted by things while you are in the comfort of your own home. Thankfully, Mr. Clean Can has some tips to help you stay productive while you work from home!
Create a Morning Routine & Stick to It
When you worked in the office, did you have a morning routine? If so, we recommend trying to continue that routine from home. Whatever it was that helped you feel ready to take on the day, whether it was getting up early to work out, taking your dog on an early walk, or even just making sure you had enough time to sit and enjoy your morning cup of coffee before work.
If you didn’t have a regular routine when you worked in the office, we suggest creating one! It will help you stay on track, and be prepared for the day.
Choose Your Workspace
If you’ve been working from different areas of your house, this may be leading to a decrease in your productivity. One way to keep yourself on track is to designate a specific area to work from every day. If you find yourself easily tempted to turn on the TV and it distracts you, choose an area without a TV. If more light helps you focus, choose a room with more windows.
Once you decide on an area of your home to work from, we also suggest customizing the area to your liking. Do you have a desk? If not, this is something that once you have it, you’ll immediately find an increase in productivity. There are many different ways to customize your workspace, so just find what works best for you!
Listen to a Podcast or Music
While this may not work for everyone, there are some people that work better with background noise. We suggest when you’re completing tasks that don’t take as much focus, turn on a podcast! Not only will they fill the silence of your home office, but you may learn something new and interesting while you listen.
If you’re working on something that requires a bit more attention, such as reading and responding to emails, writing something, and so on, we suggest instrumental music. It still fills the silence but you won’t find yourself distracted by an interesting story being told on a podcast, or a song you can’t help but sing along to.
Take Breaks
It’s important to give yourself a break while you work. Whether it’s to sit down and eat something without staring at your screen, or just stepping outside for a breath of fresh air. Even a small break can help you feel refreshed and ready to take on the rest of your work day.
Limit Things that Distract You
Now that you’re working from home, you may find it easier to grab your phone and scroll through social media regularly. But, if this is keeping you from staying productive, it may be time to limit your phone time.
A useful app you can download to your phone is Freedom. This app allows you to block certain apps you find yourself most distracted by throughout the day. That way when you pick up your phone out of habit to open Facebook, if you have it blocked through Freedom, you won’t be able to open the app. This will immediately help you get back to the task you need to complete for work!
