During the winter months (through late March), the spring serves as a manatee refuge. Seeing hundreds of these “sea cows” huddling in the crystal-clear, 72-degree water is an experience you & your kids won’t forget.

Pro Tip: This park is popular for a reason! They often reach capacity early in the morning, so try to arrive by 8:00 AM to ensure you get in.

Family Fun: Walk the accessible boardwalk to spot manatees, or take a guided river boat tour to see the local gators and birds.

2. Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex

Distance from Orlando: ~1 hour

Ready to trade the fantasy of the parks for some real-life science? The Kennedy Space Center is currently buzzing with excitement. With the Artemis II mission preparations in full swing, there is no better time to visit. You can stand beneath the massive Saturn V rocket, touch a moon rock, and even “launch” into space on the Shuttle Launch Experience.

Don’t Miss: The Space Shuttle Atlantis exhibit. Seeing the shuttle hanging with its bay doors open is an awesome moment for adults and kids alike.

Good to Know: Check their launch calendar before you go! You might just get lucky and see a Falcon 9 head into orbit while you’re there.

3. Mount Dora

Distance from Orlando: ~40 minutes

For a day that feels like a trip to another state entirely, head northwest to Mount Dora. This charming town is perched on a hill overlooking Lake Dora and is famous for its massive oak trees and historic downtown. It’s the perfect place for a slower-paced family day.

Activities: Take a ride on the Catboat Adventure Tours for a high-speed guided tour of the lake, or visit Gilbert Park, which has a fantastic castle playground that’s a huge hit with younger kids.

4. Bok Tower Gardens
