Living in the Orlando area, surrounded by some of the world’s most popular attractions, us locals often enjoy the simple things, such as finding the best spots for fresh produce. We are officially entering the prime season for blueberries, peaches, and blackberries. If you’re looking to get outside (and maybe distract the kids for a few hours), here are the best spots near Orlando that are perfect for grabbing some fresh fruit for a delicious summer pie.
1. Southern Hill Farms
Depending on the month, you can pick blueberries, strawberries, peaches, and even sunflowers or zinnias. They also have food trucks, a massive playground for the kid4s, and their famous blueberry lemonade that you’ve got to try!
Pro Tip: Check their Instagram or website before you head out! They are very diligent about updating picking conditions daily.
2. Showcase of Citrus
Also located in Clermont is Showcase of Citrus. This local favorite is a 2,500-acre estate that feels like a step back in time. It’s open 365 days a year, making it one of the most reliable spots on this list.
While they offer U-pick citrus (over 50 varieties!) during the winter and spring months, they also have a year-round farm store stocked with local honey, hot sauces, and jams. If you have guests in town, this is the place to take them for a monster truck tour through the groves.
3. Mick Farms
Their U-pick strawberry season (typically late winter/early spring) is a popular time to visit, but their seasonal veggie offerings throughout the rest of the year are the real reason to keep coming back. It’s the perfect place to stock up for your weekend BBQ.
4. Amber Brooke Farms
A bit further north in Eustis, Amber Brooke Farms is currently in the middle of their Blueberry U-Pick season. It’s a beautiful, sprawling space that feels a bit more “country” than the suburbs.
May Highlight: In addition to blueberries, May often brings their Sweet Corn harvest and their Sunflower Festival.
For the Kids: They have a “Farm Fun Pass” that gives the little ones access to jump pads, slides, and sand pits, making it easy to turn a picking trip into a whole afternoon.
Making the Most of Your Haul
When you’re finished prepping those fruits and veggies, remember that the scraps and leftovers end up in your trash can, which, in this May heat, can get a little smelly pretty quickly.
Keep the Curb Life sweet. At Clean Cans, we love seeing our neighbors enjoying the best of Central Florida. We’re here to make sure that once the cooking is done, your trash cans stay as fresh as the produce you just brought home. Get Clean Cans today!
